Pressing forward for progress: exploring causes, current challenges and solutions for gender inequality
We are all aware that the glass ceiling still remains and that only 30% of women in OECD countries are in senior positions in corporations. But why? The technical barriers to equality have been removed. There is legislation that protects against discrimination and ensures people are paid equally for the same work - every modern employer is an equal opportunities employer.
We are delighted to welcome Marina Hayden, EVP, Managing Director of Global Circulation. Marina leads the global readership business of The Economist, which is the largest revenue stream for The Economist Group. The responsibility encompasses marketing, retail, customer retention and operations - catering to their existing 1.4M customers while seeking to find new readers and generating £150M in annual revenues.
This presentation will explore the causes, current challenges and discuss solutions for picking up the pace of progress on gender equality. It will also look at the role of marketing in crafting societal norms, and share a case study of The Economist on how communication codes themselves can be changed to become more inclusive.
Marina’s bio: she joined The Economist Group in 2001, and since has held a variety of management responsibilities in conference marketing and operations before moving into readership marketing. She is an Austrian citizen born in Barcelona, raised in the US and Germany, with a degree in communication science from the University of Vienna and executive management studies with London Business School. It is Marina's nature to press forward for progress - in particular leveraging The Economist’s editorial insights on a range of subjects including gender equality, open borders and climate change. As a senior female business leader, she takes active responsibility for driving cultural and societal change by creating positive, reflected dialogue.
